Restless Leg Syndrom

I have been a sufferer of Restless Leg Syndrom for many years now, as long as I can remember in fact.  It is something that I thought was just a ‘funny thing’.  Little did I know it was a condition that many other people have and that it is treatable!  When I found out it was a huge relief, verification that I was not a hypochondriac as my wife kept on telling me.

I found out that 10% of the population suffer in some way from Restless Leg Syndrom, especially when they in bed or just resting.  That is a lot of people, so why did I not know anyone else who had it.  Well it is very hard to explain, and just shrugging it off as fidgety legs didn’t sound very manly so I kept quiet. I later found out that 3% of people suffer from restless leg syndrom so badly that it affects their sleep.  Now this is really upsetting when you’re trying to get to sleep and all you can do is kick your legs.  My wife was not too happy about this and many a night I found myself sleeping on the couch. At least now I know who to blame, it is not my fault.  Restless leg syndrom is a genetic condition so it is a family trait.  Why not try asking other family members if they have it, maybe they are unaware that it is treatable also.

You may be wondering yourself about how to relieve the effects of even get rid of them all together.  These are a few of the symptoms:-

1) Do you feel an urge to move your legs?
2) Do you sometimes feel an uncomfortable ‘feeling’ deep inside your legs?
3) Does this ‘feeling’ stop you getting off to sleep easily?
4) Do you sometimes involuntary jerk your legs?

To anyone else reading these symptoms it must sound very odd indeed. Involuntary legs jerks, strange ‘feelings’ in your legs!  In my research about restless leg syndrom I discovered that most people who suffer this are middle aged and 80% were women.  That does not however exclude young men as in my case.  But the average age for people who have this condition is 50 and they are predominantly women.

Doctors as not really sure what causes restless leg syndrome.  It is not life threatening or even dangerous, but it can be really annoying and upsetting for some of us who have our sleep patterns effected.  Because it effect sleep so much it is categorized as a sleep disorder, in some cases but not all, it can be triggered by caffeine, tobacco and alcohol, but still there is not real understanding of why this affect some people and not all people.

Again as this is not a really understood condition there is not a specified test for diagnosis.  Some doctors I imagine will be quick to prescribe you drugs, which is not something I would wish to take.  There are natural ways to overcome this condition and your doctor may be able to advise you on these.

I have taken some great advice and I am now happy to say I am finally free of restless leg syndrom forever.  Do not suffer in silence, regain your sleep at night and get rid of these annoying and unwanted symptoms.

I hope my story was of some help and comfort to others out there who now realize they are certainly not the only ones suffering.  Take action today and you too can find you how to overcome restless leg syndrom.
